No
matter how “mean” or “bad” your computer device/machine is, one tiny virus can
mess up the whole gadget, your data, finance then You.
Thus,
it becomes imperative to guard against such an unfortunate and unwanted event.
Solution
to this imminent problem is to get a very reliable antivirus and CONFIGURE IT
appropriately.
I
had to stress configure because you have to “instruct” the antivirus what you
want it to do. Your antivirus is your soldier and you are the
commander-in-chief. Just like a good
Soldier, it awaits for your command and where that it’s not forthcoming, it does
the basic operations then sits on the fence when badass viruses pay you a surprise visit. You can be sure of
their visit.
Just
like any other market, the Antivirus “market” is full of different brands all
claiming to be the boss but numbers don’t lie, check the score board!
Below
is, detailed market share statistics of Antivirus as of June 2012:
- +avast! Antivirus - 17.4% worldwide market share
- Microsoft - 13.2% worldwide market share
- +ESET - 11.1% worldwide market share
- +Symantec - 10.3% worldwide market share
- AVG - 10.1% worldwide market share
- +Avira - 9.6% worldwide market share
- +Kaspersky Lab - 6.7% worldwide market share

That was last year, 2013
power has changed hands and the table has turned but one Antivirus remain on
top of the league.
19years ago, there where
just two known Antivirus in the world…Norton and McAfee. These guys ruled their world with pride then
like every other new product, Avast antivirus showed up, hated at first but now
the world’s most used/installed antivirus.
As I write, Avast
Antivirus is installed on over 184,014,577 devices world wide. That’s what you
call Lion Share! Thanks to it’s "freemium"
business model, where the company grows and gains market share by offering a
free alternative of their software, and earns revenue thanks to the successful
conversion of free users to paid ones.
As I write based on their protective ability and not market share, these
are top ten antiviruses in 2013. (Note: these are all free antivirus and free doesn’t
mean weak as some of them are actually better than the paid + expensive
antivirus. Norton and McAfee included)
- 1. Avast
- 2. Avg
- 3. Avira
- 4. Bitdefender
- 5. Comodo
- 6. Immunet
- 7. Microsoft Essential
- 8. Panda
- 9. PC Tools
- 10. Kingsoft
Microsoft is the market leader in North America, followed by Symantec and AVG.
