Microsoft announced its plan to stop supporting one of its most successful and lasting Operating System named Windows Express (XP).
Windows XP currently run on at least two of every five PCs you'd come across in public places (Government Offices, Banks and so on) The Operating System unlike its immediate successor - Vista is reliable & dependable and Microsoft did a very good job to keep it up-to-date as technology advanced.
When the plan takes effect, Stand alone Users can still go on with the "forsaken" Operating System but they have to thread with care. Going online with Windows XP can as from this moment henceforth be likened to sharing sharp objects as Cyber attackers have been freed to do as the please.
From time to time, mostly on Monthly basis, Microsoft releases Patches for the Operating System so as to immunize it against the ever increasing Cyber attack. With their hands off such support (justifiably so), it is now unsafe and very risky to put your Computer(s) running on XP online as you are very vulnerable to heavy rain of attacks.
Thus, below are the necessary things you have to do before you finally make up your mind to upgrade to at least +Windows 7 if you have issues with Windows 8.x.
STEP:
- Ensure that your Anti-Virus program is updated daily, at least.
- Do not click on any link (hyperlink) especially if it came from an unknown and/or unsolicited source.
- Ensure that you are accessing the internet via a secured network (and how would you do that???)
- Block Pop-Ups.
- Run away from Pornographic and online gaming websites
- Access only websites that you trust and/or that has been tested ( +avast! Antivirus and others can do that for you...see your IT guy or Network Admin )
- That's all for now.
NOTE: Do not Supply your information on websites that you do not know its true source. Protect you Data, Protect your money, Protect your life.
But honestly, I wonder why one would like to go through all these steps just to access the internet. Why don't you just upgrade to supported Operating Systems and sleep with an eye closed.
For those whose PC is running on Win XP but do not access the internet with it, they are "isolatedly" safe and somewhat free from the imminent danger that is to come.
For me, it's R.I.P Win XP...anyway, that has been my position since Windows 7.
