Hillary Clinton |
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in Abuja on Thursday, where she held talks with President Goodluck
Jonathan and his security team. She urged them to adopt new strategies to halt escalating violence and pledged US support in its implementation.
“One that incorporates not
only a security strategy but also more of a social and economic strategy to
deal with poverty and the sense of marginalization in northern Nigeria that has
been attributed to the Boko Haram movement. She called for better
coordination between northern Nigeria’s various intelligence services - police,
military, the state security service. And offering American assistance to
coordinate those efforts," a source said.
She later travelled to
Ghana where she will meet with new President John Mahama and attend the funeral
of Ghanaian President John Atta Mills, who died suddenly last month.
Boko Haram has killed about 10,000 people in shootings and bombings and other means that mostly
target authority figures, government buildings, and churches. Mostly I said.
It is now up to our government and security agents to figure out how to annihilate this self proclaimed Islamic sect. They can consult strategist and pros in logistics for general idea then incorporate it into their security conscious-minds. I dare say Boko Haram is thriving not because they use explosives but simple because they are better organised than our security agents plus they are determined and selfless. Therefore, Nigerian government and her security agencies have to be very proactive and stop being reactive.
Our elders have a proverb "a hen only lays its eggs on cold ashes/stove"
Enough said. db.
